DM 01: KEY ISSUES IN EMERGENCY AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT
A critical overview of key issues in emergency and disaster management in Kenya today, bearing in mind cutting-edge modalities of Preparedness, Mitigation, Response and Recovery. Focus will be on best practices and practicality, in the light of socio-economic and technological contexts within which corporate organizations and communities operate in Kenya today. We will examine and critique the experiences of both developed and developing countries in dealing with specified emergencies. From that exercise, we will draw conclusions relevant to, and implementable in, a rapidly changing Kenya.

DM 02: PLANNING FOR CONTINGENCIES, EMERBENCY OPERATIONS AND DISASTER RECOVERY
Course is designed to expose participants to the latest advances in contingency planning, with particular attention to the challenges of emergency/disaster management in Africa to-day. We will examine the dominant principles, practices and contexts of contingency planning around the world, from an Africa-oriented SWOT perspective.

DM 03: DISASTER MANAGEMENT IN THE TOURISM SECTOR
The tourism sector is one of the most important economic sectors in Kenya both in terms of income generation and employment. However the industry is facing a major challenge in form of emerging environmental disasters which can cause loss of lives and businesses. Besides natural disasters, anthropogenic disasters like terrorism and wanton destruction of public and private property are major threats to the future development of the tourism industry. Many business enterprises in the tourism sector require a good capacity for disaster management in order to formulate appropriate mechanisms for early warning, prevention and control disaster related hazards and risks. Exposure to both preventive and curative measures is necessary for effectively management of disasters. Impacts of physical disasters, The overall aim of the short course is to familiarize and equip business practioners in the tourism sector with vital skills for comprehensive disaster management both within the business environment and other areas of operation.
